Shelton Benjamin, who recently was cleared to return to the ring following a serious shoulder injury, said he is a free agent in a social media post.
A former All-American amateur wrestler and title holder for both WWE and Ring of Honor, Benjamin tweeted the following about his contract status:
Last summer, after WWE brought back the brand split between Raw and Smackdown, vignettes teasing a Benjamin return aired on an episode of Smackdown soon after the draft. However, Benjamin announced on Twitter a couple of weeks later that he had a torn rotator cuff that would require surgery. Last month he tweeted out that he had been cleared to return to the ring.
Benjamin has not wrestled since July 30 of last year but is set to return this Friday, April 21, against Mike Orlando in Elmhurst, NY. Benjamin also has announced, via Twitter, upcoming bookings in Australia, South Africa, and Chile -- among others.
Benjamin is a three-time Intercontinental Champion in WWE and also had a reign as U.S. Champ, along with two tag title reigns in both WWE and ROH with Charlie Haas as his partner. In addition to his ROH work, Benjamin's post-WWE career has included runs with New Japan Pro Wrestling, as well as Pro Wrestling NOAH.
