Spectator Mode, Co-Op Play Featured In WWE 2K22 MyGM Mode; 'Superstar Mode' Added To Universe Mode

WWE 2K22 is adding some new flair to some old favorites.

One of the biggest hooks for this year's WWE video game release is the return of MyGM. that game mode will allow players to assume the position of a general manager working underneath Triple H to create the best show possible.

Back in the days of SmackDown vs. Raw, one of the draws to General Manager Mode was the ability to play co-op against your friends, and in a new interview, WWE 2K22 Creative Director Lynell Jinks and Art Producer Christina Diem Pham, tell Operation Sports that co-op will be included in this year's MyGM mode and while it won't be online, you will be able to play with those on your friends list.

"I wouldn't say it's necessarily online like you can go and search for someone to go find and on the lobby, but you can play against people on your friends," said Lynell Jiinks.

Comparing MyGM mode to the returning Universe Mode, Lynell would say that it is different in that the traditional version of Universe Mode provides more freedom while there are handcuffs with MyGM mode due to the nature of the mode and the need for the player to overcome traditional manager obstacles in order to create the best show possible.

"It's completely different. It's a totally separate engine, totally separate UI. So I, the way I look at Universe, it's kind of god mode, right? Where you're like, 'I'm in control of all this, I can control my ratings and changing my attributes, and you have full control over everything, right? Where MyGM, there's limitations, right? Vince McMahon is the one basically running the show and you're a GM or, in our case, it's, you know, it's Triple H, and you're underneath him or, you know, other GMs from the past, you're like, 'Okay, I'm going to select them and now I'm going to run my show.' Now I have someone who was basically judging whether I'm doing a good job or not, right? So once you take that approach, now, there's a game there, right? Like, where we gamified it, so it's just like, 'Okay, now go and draft your superstars.' Here's your ratings and here's how much money you're generating. 'Oh, you don't have that much money. You can't put on this type of show.' So there's handcuffs on you and there's someone watching you and grading you and the fans, like the fans are watching and commenting on how well you're doing in our little social media feed on the side, right? Like, there's so much there."

MyGM is also adding the ability to play in the role of somebody like Kevin Dunn and be a spectator while also being able to manipulate different camera angles. You can also choose to be a heel general manager and help certain Superstars along the way.

"If you want to be that evil GM, where you don't like how this matchup, and you think you might want to lend a hand to someone, guess what, I'm going to go into that match interfere as the GM and watch ringside and if I don't like what's going on, I'm gonna distract the ref, maybe throw a chair do whatever, right. So again, like, it's a totally separate mode. Yes, you still can go and play the matches, you can simulate, you can interfere, and even spectate using this Spectator exclusive to MyGM, where you have these predetermined cameras. So now you're like someone [behind] the camera, or in a certain area in the arena cycling through different camera angles, and just watching, and changing on the fly. So like, to me, it's a totally separate mode and a totally separate game."

Universe Mode this year does have a new Mode called “Superstar Mode'' which will allow players to forgo full control in order to focus on the specific career of a single Superstar.

"Okay, we did add 'Superstar Mode.' So it basically plays a lot -- so like you might choose to do the traditional-- what you have just described with Universe mode or the Superstar Mode. So like okay, I want to choose Charlotte Flair and just focus on Charlotte Flair, not have any control over anything else and just play through a cool story as Charlotte or you want to switch it up and be you know, Becky or Bayley like that."

Information about the game will continue to roll out as the game is only seven weeks away from being released on March 11 to the general public and March 8 to those who pre-order the Deluxe Editions. Fightful Gaming will continue to provide all updates as they are available.
