What has happened...
Three weeks ago on NXT TV coming out of NXT TakeOver: Chicago II, after defeating his longtime partner-now rival Johnny Gargano, Tommaso Ciampa moved on to his next goal in NXT which was to insert himself into the world title picture and become champion. The match was soon made official as the NXT Champion Aleister Black welcomed Tommaso Ciampa as a challenger although Ciampa never minced any words about not respecting Aleister.
Last week on NXT TV Tommaso Ciampa attacked Aleister Black as Black walked into the building to address Ciampa. There was no more talking left to do between the two men as they met at tonight's NXT TV tapings at Full Sail with the NXT Championship on the line.
In a shocking finish Johnny Gargano got involved in the bout when the referee was down and delivered a superkick to Ciampa and then proceeded to hit Aleister Black with the NXT Title. Ciampa was able to gather himself and tossed Gargano out of the ring and hit Aleister Black with his finisher and now, Tommaso Ciampa is the new NXT Champion.
