Steph De Lander (Persia Pirotta in NXT) was released by WWE in April after being regularly featured on NXT television in a team with Indi Hartwell.
Since being released, De Lander has taken various independent bookings including BLP and XPW.
Speaking to Taylor Wilde on Wilde On, De Lander discussed how she's enjoying her freedom as an independent wrestler.
"That's how it feels too," De Lander said when it was brought up that there are many options in wrestling at the moment. "It definitely, in a way, gives me power knowing that there are a lot of options on the table and I can be a bit more selective with what I do and I do kind of have the choice to do what I want. Even when I signed my contract, being an Australian, you take whatever is offered to you straight away because you need a visa. You need to get out of your home country and you need that visa. You don't really have any leg to stand on to negotiate anything or to even think twice. It's just the first place that's going to offer you a visa to move to America, you're going to do it. Now that I'm here in America and I have my own visa and stuff, I have a little more independence and power to do what I want to do and that's a cool spot to be in. I'm being a little more selective with what I'm doing and trying to play it smart, make sure I'm doing stuff that I want to do in places that I want to be against opponents that I want to work with. I'm trying to find a new balance of making sure I'm happy with what I'm doing but staying active and all that good stuff."
De Lander noted that she still lives in Orlando because many of her friends are there.
Unfortunately, De Lander is currently out of action for a couple of months due to surgery. You can find her comments about missing time by clicking here.
