Stevie Richards talks about his relationship with CM Punk during CM Punk's days in Ring of Honor and his early days in WWE.
Stevie Richards recently ranked the kindness of several professional wrestlers for a new video on his YouTube channel, and he had a lot of positive things to say about CM Punk. Stevie reveals that he was once planning on competing against Punk in two 60-minute draws when CM Punk was the Ring of Honor World Champion.
While those matches never happened, Richards and Punk developed a relationship where the veteran was able to give CM Punk advice on how to make it to WWE.
"I got a lot of dealings with Punk, in a good way. When Punk was in ROH, I went there, and it was in Connecticut when I was still coming back from my face being destroyed from Chris Masters. I came in, [Punk] threw the Polish hammer and me, I ducked, hit him with the kick. We were supposed to have a two out of three fall series, not one match, but, and I was going to do two 60-minute draws with him, because I wanted to see if I could do it and then he would have won the third match. We were going to work, but it didn't happen. Then he said he wanted to go to WWE. [Tommy] Dreamer and I gave him some advice as far as, like, what to do, what it's like up there, or anything like that. Told him, 'You got to get into shape.' That's when he got into really good shape at the end of the ROH run."
Richards then spoke about how wrestlers would police the locker room by looking out for one another and helping good workers get jobs. Of course, Richards and Punk wound up together on the revamped ECW brand in 2006, where Stevie would joke that they had 1,070 matches, but Richards says through his dealings with Punk he was an S-tier human being.
CM Punk is currently back in WWE and last competed inside Hell in a Cell against Drew McIntyre at WWE Bad Blood. He will return to WWE as part of the Holiday Tour in Madison Square Garden. Learn more here.
