Tetsuya Naito Challenges Jay White For WK 14; KENTA Attacks Katsuyori Shibata At NJPW Power Struggle

Huge close to NJPW Power Struggle.

Following a successful IWGP Intercontinental Title defense against Hirooki Goto, Jay White declared his intentions to challenge the IWGP Heavyweight Champion on Jan. 5 at night two of Wrestle Kingdom 14. Kazuchika Okada is set to defend the IWGP Heavyweight Title against Kota Ibushi on Jan. 4 at night one of the event. Not wanting White to have a free night on Jan. 4, Tetsuya Naito challenged White for the IWGP Intercontinental Championship for Night One, declaring his intentions to become a double champion as well. Kota Ibushi also came out, stating he too wants to be a double champion by the time Wrestle Kingdom 14 is over.

The segment ended with Kazuchika Okada hitting the ring to try and come up with a solution, but nothing was actually solved.

Perhaps the bigger news came during the main event, when KENTA once again attacked Katsuyori Shibata as Shibata went after Gedo at ringside. KENTA laid into Shibata with a series of kicks, helping White retain the IC Title against Goto.

As of now, Shibata has not been reportedly been cleared for competition. He hasn't wrestled since April 2017 due to a subdural hematoma. KENTA first attacked Shibata in August, marking the first time Shibata had been involved in a physical angle since retiring. The angle led to speculation he would be returning to the ring.
