Tetsuya Naito wants to spread the name of Los Ingobernables de Japon.
Since 2015, Naito has led the stable, which also includes BUSHI, Hiromu Takahashi, and SANADA, among other stars. Before Naito brought the group to New Japan Pro-Wrestling, he joined the faction in CMLL. At the time, it was led by RUSH, La Mascara, and La Sombra (also known as Andrade El Idolo). The three stars have since left the group, and Naito remains the face of the stable.
In an interview with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Naito made it clear that he wants to spread both his name and that of Los Ingobernables de Japon around the world. He noted that he feels like representing the stable this way would let him repay his stablemates, La Sombra (El Idolo) and RUSH, who brought him to the group.
"That is the best way to repay my benefactors, Sombra and Rush, who led me to Los Ingobernables. I want to spread the name of Tetsuya Naito and Los Ingobernables de Japon to more and more people," Naito said through a translator.
Naito is one of NJPW's most established stars, and he described how he thinks highly of Shota Umino. He emphasized that he believes Umino could be great, but he wants Shota to earn it by facing him and testing himself.
“I think Shota is a great wrestler, and it’s very possible he’ll be a star in a few years. That is why I want to make him realize the difference with the current top players in New Japan Pro-Wrestling, and then let him down. I think that is absolutely necessary for the future of New Japan," Naito said.
Umino will have the opportunity to face Naito at NJPW The New Beginning in Sapporo. More information is available here.
Naito will compete at Wrestle Kingdom 17 in Yokohama Arena. Check out the card here.
