Thunder Rosa Is Very Proud Of Lights Out Match With Britt Baker, Talks AEW's Women Demanding More

Thunder Rosa reflects on the Lights Out Match with Britt Baker from St. Patrick's Day Slam 2021.

Thunder Rosa and Britt Baker had a classic match at St Patrick's Day Slam last year. A groundbreaking match that saw women headlining AEW Dynamite for the first time ever, that rivalry will now extend into this Sunday's Revolution pay-per-view where Thunder Rosa looks to wrestle the Women's Championship away from Britt Baker.

Speaking with Denise Salcedo, she would say that she is very proud of what she and Britt Baker were able to do end she is proud that women are getting the chance to showcase more of what they can do in AEW.

"I'm very thankful that I was one of the people chosen to do something like this. I honestly, never thought it would have the impact that it had, not only in the AEW women's division, but women's wrestling in general. That genre of wrestling has existed for a long time and many women have been part of it. One that comes to mind is LuFisto, she did a lot of hardcore matches and because she wasn't at a big stage, didn't get the recognition she deserves because she's gone through hell and back to get women's wrestling here. There are so many women in Japan, I've been studying a lot of those matches from the 90s and 80s, these women have been doing it for a long time. It just happened that, the public was ready to see something like this in a mainstream place and we were able to deliver and because of that, a lot of the women in AEW feel that now is the time to showcase a lot more that they can do," Rosa said.

Rosa also took some time to spotlight the Tag Team Street Fight between The Bunny and Penelope Ford against Tay Conti and Anna Jay that took place on New Year's Eve 2021.

"We can talk another match on New Year's Eve with Bunny, Penelope (Ford), Tay (Conti), and Anna Jay. They did a street fight. The risks that we're taking now, you see more no DQ matches and street matches. Now it's always, 'are you going to bring a table? Are you going to bring a chair?' It's just special occasions only, calm down [laughs]. Just because I did it, doesn't mean I'm going to do it all the time. I feel it has to be a special occasion and it has to tell a story. If I'm going to pull something like that, it has to mean something. Although I break kayfabe a lot, psychology is so important to me. It's one of the things I pride myself in when I wrestle men or women, the build-up of the story. It's important for people to be drawn to it. We're demanding more stories for ourselves and we're ready to work and want to put the work in. That's what I hear a lot in the AEW locker room. We're all ready to work, make each other look good, and be part of the change," said Rosa.

Thunder Rosa will look to you repeat history from last year and capture the Women's World Championship from Britt Baker this Sunday night. Elsewhere in the interview, Rosa spoke about what it would mean for her to become Champion. Learn more here.
