Tony Khan's mess up led to Jay White appearing in AEW.
On February 4 following AEW Rampage, Tony Khan promised that a top wrestler would walk through the forbidden door and join AEW when he faced Isiah Kassidy. The term "forbidden door" has always been used in reference to companies working together and not signing exclusively with one company, which is what Khan hinted at with the debuting wrestler.
In the days leading to AEW Dynamite, Khan noted that he had created debate around the meaning of the "forbidden door."
On Dynamite, Keith Lee was the man who joined AEW while Jay White also made a surprise appearance. Following the show, Khan admitted that he "butchered" the definition of the forbidden door and worked to secure White's appearance.
I didn’t secure @JayWhiteNZ until Sunday. I realized after the fact that Friday night I butchered my own definition of Forbidden Door in hyping tonight. I heard the fans’ feedback, & wanted to ensure that tonight was a special #AEWDynamite for all. Thank you everyone who watched!
