Tony Khan thinks AEW running nine pay-per-view events per year might be perfect for the company.
AEW has continued to expand its pay-per-view event schedule in the last year. In 2023, AEW ran eight unique pay-per-view events, not counting the three events run under the banner of AEW's sister promotion, Ring of Honor.
Tony Khan feels that model was very successful and told Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that he could see the schedule possibly increasing to nine or ten events a year, personally feeling that nine might be the sweet spot.
"I could see this year being nine to ten. Nine is probably a good sweet spot. It feels like that’s about the right number. I don’t want to make a huge change or increase, but definitely, eight was incredibly successful and I don’t want to do anything totally different, but I do see an opening for nine, probably, and maybe ten. Nine feels like a great number for us, in particular when you also consider I put on three Ring of Honor streaming events annually, that puts AEW doing our nine strongest events plus the ROH’s three strongest events," Khan said on the media call prior to AEW Revolution 2024.
Tony Khan also spoke about believing that 2025 will be a major year for AEW and the year they become the established challenger and pro wrestling for decades to come. Read his comments here.
