Tony Nese got WrestleMania 35 off to a hot start, winning the Crusierweight Championship in the kick-off show by defeating Buddy Murphy.
WrestleMania 35 was a historic night as it was headlined by Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Ronda Rousey, marking the first-time ever women had main evented the show.
For Nese, it was his crowning moment as well and he was surprised by the reaction of Vince McMahon.
"Yeah (that was my crowning moment), absolutely," Nese told Tommy Dreamer on House of Hardcore podcast. "That moment felt amazing. At times where, you kind of felt like an Indy show that was attached to a major company, at that moment I felt like I was part of the company. It was a really cool experience. Believe it or not, a great story, as I came into the back, Vince (McMahon) was already in Gorilla, which I was absolutely surprised that I was already there and ready to go. He looked up at me and said, 'That's how you start WrestleMania.' He shook my hand and I was like, 'Oh my God, this is the greatest thing ever.' That day was one of the coolest experiences and one of my crowning moments in the company."
Nese and Murphy would have an extended rematch on the subsequent episode of 205 Live. Nese would remain a staple on 205 Live until he was released by the company on June 25.
