Tony Schiavone gives his take on 'The Iron Claw'.
Since being released on MAX in May, 'The Iron Claw' has continued to reach new audiences around the world. The film has recieved nearly universal praise for its screenplay and direction, but some fans have taken issue with some of the movie's casting choices.
On the latest episode of What Happened When (via AdFreeShows), Schiavone first stated that he agreed with the general sentiment that Dean Eisenberg was not the right person to play Ric Flair in the film.
“I liked it. A couple of things I didn’t like, I think most of us did not like who portrayed Ric Flair and I don’t know if there is an actor out there who would’ve really captured Ric Flair."
Schiavone then went on to state that Jeremy Allen White wasn't able to nail the role of Kerry Von Erich.
"Even though The Bear may be one of my favorite shows of all time, I [don’t think Jeremy Allen White] did a good Kerry Von Erich. Yeah. He’s a good actor, but Kerry to me, he was just a bit more muscular guy. He just didn’t look physically to me like Kerry Von Erich.”
When asked to clarify, Shiavone confirmed that he only had issues with White's physical presence, not his acting skills.
“Yes, absolutely. Hell, the kid has won an Emmy for The Bear.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Schiavone spoke about how he would've handled Vince McMahon talking down to him in his ear on commentary. Learn more about those comments here.
Ryan Nemeth recently stated that 'The Iron Claw' is the best depiction of wrestling that he's ever seen in cinema. Click here to learn more about Nemeth's take.
