A new championship is coming to the yellow-brand.

During the last set of NXT TV tapings, news broke that a new championship was going to be introduced to the brand. This championship is called the 'NXT North American Championship' and an inaugural champion will be crowned at NXT TakeOver: New Orleans in a Ladder match. Six men will battle it out for the chance to call themselves the first-ever NXT 'North American Champion' and those men are: Ricochet, EC3, The Velveteen Dream, Adam Cole, Lars Sullivan, and Killian Dane.

Founder and senior producer of NXT Triple H was interviewed by USA Today's "For The Win" section and he had the following to say about the newest championship in NXT.

"I think it’s part of a long-term strategic plan for the brand. You see with the UK title, the North American Championship, I think as we branch out and become bigger, [with more] opportunities in different places." He added, "It allows for multiple events to take place with championships represented where I feel like, in locations across North America, Mexico, Canada, the North American Championship can be defended and be a main event-style match with the right players. The NXT Championship could be going internationally at that same period of time. It really depends, but it’s part of a long-term strategic plan."
