At WWE Money in the Bank, Austin Theory put the United States Championship on the line against Bobby Lashley. The All Mighty earned the opportunity by defeating Theory and Alpha Academy in a Gauntlet Match. The two men have been at odds for several weeks, with Theory constantly antagonizing Lashley.
The bout between Lashley and Theory went on second at Money in the Bank, and after a hard-fought encounter, it was Lashley that emerged victoriously after applying the Hurt Lock. With his victory, Lashley is now a three-time United States Champion. Theory's title reign, which began on April 18, lasted a total of 75 days.
