The Von Erichs discuss their emotional title win.
At AEW Battle of the Belts XI, The Von Erichs (Marshall and Ross Von Erich) and Dustin Rhodes defeated Roderick Strong, Matt Taven, and Mike Bennett to win the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship. After the bell, the trio celebrated with Kevin Von Erich.
Speaking on Busted Open Radio, The Von Erichs discussed their title win. Marshall highlighted how it was an emotional moment.
“It was really special seeing Dustin because it was, his dad wasn’t there to experience that with him, but our dad was, so it was almost like Dustin had closure, having our dad there to be there with all of us. I’m not great with words, but it was a really, really heavy moment, and I can’t describe the feeling when we all got back in the locker room, and we all sat there. No words could be said. It all happened, it was telepathic eye contact. Wrestling is beautiful, man. I fell in love with wrestling once again. It was a beautiful weekend. I’ve never been so motivated and so inspired and as determined. I love this business. You don’t always get payoffs like that, and this is hopefully one of many, but got a little payoff of a weekend this weekend of all the work we put into wrestling and missing birthdays, missing all this stuff, it all made it worth it. It just a good time, great moment," Marshall said.
During the interview, the Von Erichs were also asked about teaming with Dustin Rhodes. Ross noted that he had a wealth of knowledge, and he had plenty of strengths that complemented theirs. Marshall then described how Rhodes was like a big brother to them.
"He’s been a source of counsel for us for the past couple years. We’ll bounce ideas off of him, and any time we make any big decision, we’ll give him a call. This teaming, it’s real. He’s like the big brother we’ve never had, and getting in there together, it felt natural because we had a couple tag matches together, but having belts and all bring teamed up, it didn’t feel real until about yesterday, when we got home and made eye contact with dad, that’s when crap got real. Couldn’t really say much, but you could see it all in the eyes," Marshall said.
Marshall emphasized that he and Ross love their father, and they want to honor him. Ross said that the title win was a long time coming, and it was a beautiful moment.
Kevin Von Erich previously said that he tried to talk his sons out of being pro wrestlers. Check out his comments here.
