William Regal comments on leaving AEW.
Regal made his debut at AEW Revolution 2022, and he founded the Blackpool Combat Club with Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley. Wheeler Yuta and Claudio Castagnoli later joined the group. Regal was featured on AEW programming throughout his time with the group, both as a part of the Blackpool Combat Club and a member of the commentary team for his stablemates' matches. He betrayed Jon Moxley and helped MJF win the AEW World Championship at AEW Full Gear 2022. MJF then turned o him and took him out with a brutal attack on the November 30 episode of AEW Dynamite.
AEW president Tony Khan subsequently confirmed that Regal asked the company not to renew his contract option at the end of the year so he could return to WWE and work with his son, Charlie Dempsey.
In a tweet on December 30, Regal confirmed that he has wrapped up with AEW. He thanked Khan and everyone he worked with, and he made it clear that he had a great time. Regal also stated that working with the Blackpool Combat Club cemented his friendships with the members.
The full message is as follows:
Yesterday was my last official day with @AEW. I'd like to thank @TonyKhan, Mega, and all the hard working crew. Contrary to people who've never spoken to me or have their information from people who don't know me or are trying to make themselves noticed, I had a lovely time working there and had a great time. Lots of talented Wrestlers, and lovely people to work for. To my fellow BCC members, it was a special, albeit brief few months but it cemented our already strong friendship. To everyone there, thank you for welcoming me. Best wishes.
