The road to WrestleMania this year will include a trip to Saudi Arabia next month.
WWE announced during the Royal Rumble pay-per-view that it will hold its Super ShowDown event on February 27 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It had been previously reported that WWE was traveling to Saudi Arabia in February, but the official announcement came on the show.
This is the second Super ShowDown event to take place in Saudi Arabia with the first show being headlined by a unique matchup between The Undertaker and Goldberg. That Super Showdown card was then followed by last October's Crown Jewel show. At Crown Jewel, WWE featured former unified heavyweight boxing world champion Tyson Fury making his in-ring debut as well as Cain Velasquez's first WWE match against Brock Lesnar.
Crown Jewel wasn't without its post-event controversy as WWE superstars were stranded in Saudi Arabia following the event due to reported mechanical issues with the plane. Fortunately, superstars made it back to the United States safely. On November 4, WWE and Saudi General Entertainment Authority announced they were expanding their partnership.
