Charlie Dempsey traveled to Japan at the end of 2023 and start of 2024 to wrestle a handful of matches in All Japan Pro-Wrestling.
According to Hochi News, WWE reached out to Simon Kelly Inoki, the son-in-law of Antonio Anoki, to arrange plans for Dempsey. Simon was the one who negotiated Dempsey's participation in AJPW.
Simon was previously the President of NJPW. He is currently the director of Inoki Genome Federation.
Dempsey challenged Katsuhiko Nakajima for the Triple Crown Championship in AJPW. He previously commented that he would like to be a bridge for WWE and AJPW.
Dempsey, who is the son of William Regal, has since returned to the US and is working NXT live events.
