WWE has filed to trademark 'Cody Rhodes' after the trademark lapsed on April 13.
Cody filed to trademark the name the day WWE's trademark lapsed, but WWE has filed a late renewal, claiming that their filing and payment was delayed due to COVID-19. The late renewal was filed on May 15.
Cody's application received an initial refusal due to the similarity with WWE’s registration. Cody has six months from June 30 to respond to the "likelihood of confusion" letter sent by the USPTO or else his trademark will be abandoned.
WWE previously filed to opposed the trademarks to 'Slamboree' And 'The Match Beyond,' which were filed by Cody.
In other WWE trademark news, the United States Patent and Trademark Office has abandoned WWE's trademark for 'The Man' as they did not receive a response to the previous Office action within the six-month response period.
WWE filed for the trademark in December 2019 to continue to use for Becky Lynch, but Ric Flair had already filed for the trademark in August 2019. In May 2020, Flair reportedly agreed to sell the trademark to WWE.
Flair signed a new deal with WWE earlier this year.
