A new Number One Contender’s Tournament began on the January 15th episode of WWE Speed, as Charlie Dempsey faced Chad Gable. They felt each other out early on, and they were evenly matched. Dempsey took control with a butterfly suplex. Gable grounded Dempsey, but Dempsey fired up and hit Gable with a monkey flip. Gable went for the ankle lock, but Dempsey avoided it. Dempsey and Gable kept battling. Dempsey stacked Gable up for a two count. Gable then hit the Chaos Theory for the win.

With the win, Gable advanced to the semifinals. He will face the winner of the first-round match between Chris Sabin and Grayson Waller. The winner of the tournament will challenge Dragon Lee for the WWE Speed Championship.
Blake Howard was on commentary for the January 15th episode of WWE Speed, and Corey Graves was absent from the show. Graves was also absent from the January 14th episode of WWE NXT. Fightful Select recently reported an update about Corey Graves.
