Yota Tsuji: I Haven't Given Up On Breaking Up The IWGP World Heavyweight Title

Yota Tsuji still wants to break up the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship.

The NJPW G1 Climax 34 tournament will begin on July 20. 2024 New Japan Cup winner Yota Tsuji is looking to reach the next level by winning the G1, and he remains determined to bring back the IWGP Intercontinental Championship as well.

Speaking with NJPW's website, Yota Tsuji shared his thoughts on his upcoming tournament match against IWGP Global Heavyweight David Finlay on July 21.

"I lost to him at Dontaku, so I’d like revenge. Beating him puts me closer to the IWGP Global Championship. Still, my main goal is the World Heavyweight Championship- I haven’t given up on breaking up that title," Tsuji said.

Tsuji was asked about his comments regarding restoring the IWGP Heavyweight and Intercontinental Championships. He stated that the Global Heavyweight Championship was a big part of the puzzle, and he would have more say if he won it.

"The Global belt is a big piece of that puzzle. Bring back the Intercontinental Championship, and people will be asking what happens to the Global? If I hold the Global Championship then I’ll have most say in what happens," Tsuji said.

NJPW unified the IWGP Heavyweight and Intercontinental Championships at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 15.

Tsuji previously said that he plans to separate the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship and bring back the IWGP Heavyweight Championship. Check out his comments here.
