Zack Sabre Jr gets his shot.
Zack Sabre Jr. will challenge for the IWGP World Heavyweight Title at NJPW King of Pro-Wrestling on October 14.
ZSJ will face either Tetsuya Naito or Great-O-Khan. Naito currently holds the title, but he will defend it against Great-O-Khan on September 29 at NJPW Destruction in Kobe.
ZSJ earned his title shot by winning the NJPW G1 Climax 34 tournament. Instead of waiting until Wrestle Kingdom 19 on January 4, 2025, he wanted his opportunity at NJPW King of Pro-Wrestling.
In the wake of his historic G1 Climax 34 victory on August 18, Zack Sabre Jr. declared that he wasn’t waiting for January 4 and the Tokyo Dome for an IWGP World Heavyweight title shot. Declaring Ryogoku Sumo Hall as his favourite venue to wrestle in, ZSJ said he wanted to challenge for the title there, on October 14 at King of Pro-Wrestling, and then to defend his title for the first time at Royal Quest in London.
At least the first part of that plan will be put into action, as it has been officially confirmed Sabre will wrestle whoever the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion is in the main event of King of Pro-Wrestling 2024. That champion will be determined two weeks earlier at Destruction in Kobe between Tetsuya Naito and Great-O-Khan; will Sabre convert G1 victory to the title October 14?
Fightful will have results from NJPW King of Pro-Wrestling on October 14.
