Jeff Hardy's shoulder injury turns out to be more serious than initially reported.
WWE announced that Hardy will have surgery for a torn rotator cuff and a torn labrum that he suffered during Hardy's match in the Six-Pack Challenge from the September 18 episode of RAW. The match, won by Jason Jordan, was to determine a new No. 1 contender to the Intercontinental Title for the No Mercy pay-per-view which recently concluded.
Hardy will undergo the procedure on October 3, but will have further evaluation before the surgery date. Hardy said he initially thought he dislocated his shoulder during the match. In an interview with WWE.com, Hardy said doctors will check to see if there is any additional damage done to him.
“Once they get in there, they’ll figure out more about what they have to repair,” Hardy said. “But for sure, the rotator cuff has to be repaired, and then they’ll look at the labrum when they get in there.”
It was reported earlier this week that the former WWE Champion had been dealing with a shoulder injury and was favoring the shoulder during the Six-Pack Challenge. Hardy did not work any of the live events from this past week as a result of the injury, but the extent of the damage was not previously known until WWE made the news official, but surgery was a probable course for Hardy.
Hardy, alongside his brother Matt, returned to WWE at WrestleMania 33 earlier this year and won the RAW Tag Team title. The Hardyz did not compete at the No Mercy pay-per-view.
