From the moment Amanda Nunes landed that first punch on Ronda Rousey, she knew it was going to be the end of the fight soon and, according to Nunes, the end of Rousey's MMA career.
In the UFC 207 post-fight press conference, Nunes knew her title defense against Rousey was going to end with Nunes finishing the fight with her striking. Nunes said her confidence kept building up throughout the very brief fight.
“The whole time I knew it was going to be like that,” Nunes said.. “And I’ve been training like that, like a lioness. And I knew, if I had the chance in the beginning of the fight, like she would give me the opportunity to, I knew I could finish her. I know the girls can’t take my punches. I know that, and it happened tonight. Yeah, I saw the first punch and it built my confidence to keep it going."
The UFC 207 main event saw Nunes finishing Rousey in just 48 seconds to retain her UFC Women's Bantamweight belt. Nunes believes Rousey will retire from MMA after a dominant run that helped put women's MMA on the map.
“Yeah, that’s it for her,” Nunes said. “For sure she’s going to retire. She can’t take it anymore. If she wants the rematch, I’m going to do the same thing because she can’t take my punches.”
