Amanda Serrano has shattered another record in spectacular fashion.
Serrano, arguably the best pound-for-pound boxer in women's boxing, knocked out Eva Voraberger in the first 35 seconds of their fight to win the vacant WBO super flyweight title. The fight took place at the Hulu Theater in Madison Square Garden and was part of the undercard for the DAZN card headlined by Demetrius Andrade vs. Artur Akavov for the WBO middleweight title.
Both women opened things up with a flurry of punches, but Serrano got the better of the opening exchange. Serrano would land a vicious left hook to Voraberger's body, immediately dropping her to the canvas. Voraberger was wincing in pain, holding her right side as she was unable to get back up in time and was counted out, suffering her second career knockout loss.
The win not only gave Serrano another world title, but also broke her own record for titles won as she won a world title in a seventh weight class. Serrano's last fight prior to January 18 was this past September when she won the WBO junior welterweight title.
The 30-year-old Serrano has now claimed titles at super flyweight, bantamweight, super bantamweight, featherweight, super featherweight, lightweight and junior welterweight throughout her 10-year pro boxing career. Only Manny Pacquiao has won titles in more weight classes than Serrano.
After the fight, Serrano stated that she would want to defend her new world title and possibly fight against Raja Amasheh. The win was the first fight in Serrano's three-fight deal with DAZN and plans are currently in place for Serrano to face unified women's lightweight champion Katie Taylor later this year.
