Brad Katona Faces Matthew Lopez At UFC 231

A bantamweight division bout has been announced for UFC 231 by the UFC as Brad Katona is going to be in action against Matthew Lopez.

Katona (7-0-0) was the bantamweight winner of the UFC Ultimate Fighter 27, defeating Jay Cucciniello in the finals of the reality show. Katona has seen his last five fights end in the third round, with four of those five encounters going the distance. Katona did win two fights on the UFC Ultimate Fighter 27 before making it to the finals, with those other victories coming over the duo of Bryce Mitchell and Kyler Phillips.

Lopez (10-3-0) enters the contest while in the midst of a two fight losing streak, having dropped bouts to the duo of Raphael Assuncao and Alejandro Perez. Lopez hasn’t picked up a win on over a year, with that last victory coming over Johnny Eduardo at UFC 212. Lopez is also a five fight veteran of the Resurrection Fighting Alliance, with all five wins in the organization coming via first round finish.

UFC 231 takes place on Saturday, December 8 from the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada with Max Holloway and Brian Ortega headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
