UFC Interim Welterweight Champion Colby Covington and UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley are expected to clash sometime in the future.
It wouldn’t take long for Covington to accept a bout with Woodley because the interim champion he’d fight the welterweight champion on one days notice.
“I’m the number one contender. I’ve beaten these guys that Tyron fought,” Covington said on BJ Penn.com Radio. “I beat these guys a lot worse than Tyron beat them. So at the end of the day, I’m ready to fight Tyron at a week’s notice, a day’s notice, whenever he wants to go. But it’s ducking season. He’s going to be ducking me for a while.”
Woodley hasn’t competed since the main event of UFC 228, while Covington hasn’t been seen in action since UFC 225.
Covington already claims to have beaten Woodley in a fight, but that encounter took place in a gym.
“He’s fought me in the gym, and I’ve taken his soul in the gym. So he knows I’m a bad match-up, and he’s going to try and duck me as long as he can,” says Covington.
There is no word yet on when the two champions may collide, but American Top Team manager Dan Lambert said that the UFC would like the two to meet at UFC 233.
