Daniel Cormier Named Head Wrestling Coach At California's Gilroy High School

UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier and UFC Heavyweight Champion Stipe Miocic are both head coaches on the UFC Ultimate Fighter 27, which just started earlier this week.

DC is now going to be taking a coaching role of a different kind as he’ll be the head wrestling coach at Gilroy High School out of Santa Clara, California.

The fighter has held head coaching positions before, most notably leading the youth wrestling program from the American Kickboxing Academy (AKA). Cormier has also coached before at Knoxx Gym and the Lute! Training Academy, so this is nothing new to the UFC champion.

Cormier has opted to not accept any form of pay for coaching at the high school, instead the UFC star will split his salary, giving it to assistant coaches Shawn Bunch and Kyle Crutchmer.

Bloody Elbow got the following comments from DC on his new coaching position:

“It’s a very big deal to me. I’m excited about helping kids in my town. I’m also excited about my son having a lot of new training partners. I’m very thankful for my wife, Salina, Dr. Marco Sanchez (school principal), and the entire Gilroy wrestling community for giving me this opportunity.”

UFC 226 takes place on Saturday, July 7 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
