Glover Teixeira's Training Partner Tests Positive For COVID-19

Next weekend’s UFC Vegas 10 main event between Glover Teixeira and Thiago Santos was moved to October 3 after Teixeira tested positive for the coronavirus.

Teixeira says the only people from his team to test positive for the virus were himself and training partner Alex Pereira.

“I only did the test because the UFC asked me to, I wasn’t feeling any symptoms,” Teixeira said to MMA Fighting. “Actually, no one in the team had any symptoms. They tested everybody, and Alex and I were the only ones that came back positive. But they asked everyone to test again next week just to make sure.”

The bout, which was the main event at UFC Vegas 10, will now be a three-round affair when it happens on October 3. Both Teixeira and Pereira, who tested positive for COVID-19, will quarantine together and train together before the October 3 bout.

“I have everything I need to continue my preparation at home, so I’ll continue my preparation here,” Teixeira said. “Since Alex and I are quarantining together, we’ll continue training. We won’t leave my house until the test comes back negative, but having Alex here is great already.”

UFC Fight Night: Holm vs. Aldana is set for Saturday, October 3 from a location to be announced with Holly Holm and Irene Aldana headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, while broadcast plans have yet to be revealed.
