MMA

Alex Oliveira was left without an opponent after Neil Magny was pulled from UFC Fight Night Sao Paulo to headline UFC Fight Night Beunos Aires, but a report from Combate is saying that Carlo Pedersoli Jr. has agreed to step up on short notice to face Oliveira.

Oliveira (18-5-1-2NC) has won three of his last four under the UFC banner, with those victories coming over Tim MeansRyan LaFlare and Carlos Condit. Oliveira hasn’t had a bout go the distance in over two years, with his last fight to do so coming at UFC On Fox 20 in July of 2016. Oliveira has suffered just two defeats since moving up to welterweight in 2016, with those losses coming to Donald Cerrone and Yancy Medeiros.

Pedersoli Jr (11-1-0) is currently undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated Brad Scott by split decision at UFC Fight Night Liverpool. Pedersoli Jr enters the contest on the strength of an eight fight winning streak and he hasn’t suffered a defeat in almost three years. Pedersoli Jr is also taking his second short notice bout in the UFC, as the aforementioned contest with Scott was also a late notice fight.

UFC Fight Night Sao Paulo takes place on Saturday, September 22 from the Ibirapueroa Gymnasium in Sao Paulo, Brazil with Jimi Manuwa and Thiago Santos headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on Fox Sports 1.
