A welterweight division attraction has been added to UFC Fight Night Brasilia as #6 Demian Maia is in action against #13 Gilbert Burns.
Raphael Marinho of Combate first reported the bout, which is expected to be the co-main event of the show.
Maia (28-9-0) enters the contest on the strength of a three fight winning streak, defeating Ben Askren, Anthony Rocco Martin and Lyman Good. Maia has previously challenged for the UFC Welterweight Title, losing to then champion Tyron Woodley at UFC 214. Maia has also previously challenged for the UFC Middleweight Title, losing to then champion Anderson Silva at UFC 112.
Burns (17-3-0) has been undefeated since moving up to welterweight and he also comes into the bout riding a four fight winning streak. Burns hasn’t suffered a defeat in over a year, with that last loss coming to Dan Hooker at UFC 226. Burns has suffered three losses as a professional MMA fighter, but he has yet to be beaten by way of submission.
UFC Fight Night Brasilia takes place on Saturday, March 14 from the Ginasio Nilson Nelson in Brasilia, Brazil with no main event announced at this time. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+.
