A welterweight division attraction has been added to UFC 253 as no. 13 lightweight Donald Cerrone faces Niko Price.
Brett Okamoto of ESPN first reported the fight.
Cerrone (36-15-0-1NC) enters the contest riding a four-fight losing streak, dropping bouts to Tony Ferguson, Justin Gaethje, Conor McGregor and Anthony Pettis. Cerrone has not picked up a victory in over a year. That last win came against Al Iaquinta at UFC Fight Night Ottawa. Cerrone is fighting an opponent who has not challenged for or held a UFC title for the first time since January 2019.
Price (14-4-0-1NC) has rotated wins and losses in his last six UFC fights. The latest was a third-round TKO loss to Vicente Luque at UFC 249. Price’s last six fights have ended by KO/TKO and it has been almost three years since the fighter got a finish by a different method. Price has competed 19 times as a professional MMA fighter and just one of those bouts went the distance.
UFC 253 takes place on Saturday, September 19 from a location to be announced with Israel Adesanya and Yoel Romero headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+.
