Report: Rory MacDonald Defends Welterweight Title Against Jon Fitch At Bellator 220

A Bellator Welterweight World Grand Prix Opening Round bout and Bellator Welterweight Title fight will take place at Bellator 220 according to MMA Fighting as Rory MacDonald defends the belt against Jon Fitch.

MacDonald (20-5-0) is making the first defense of the championship, which he won by defeating Douglas Lima by unanimous decision at Bellator 192. MacDonald is coming off of a loss to Gegard Mousasi at Bellator 206, but that bout was for Mousasi’s middleweight title. MacDonald had also previously challenged for the UFC Welterweight Title, losing to then champion Robbie Lawler at UFC 189.

Fitch (31-7-1-1NC) is undefeated thus far under the Bellator MMA banner, defeating Paul Daley by unanimous decision at Bellator 199. Fitch is a former WSOF Welterweight Champion, defeating Joao Zeferino to win the gold at the WSOF 30. Fitch has also previously challenged for the UFC Welterweight Title, losing to then champion Georges St. Pierre by unanimous decision at UFC 87.

Bellator 220 takes place on Saturday, April 27 from the SAP Center in San Jose, California with no main event announced at this time. Fightful is going to be providing live coverage of the event, which will air live on the Paramount Network.
