After the match, Marella made a farewell speech in front of the crowd comprised of fans, friends and family where he revealed that his neck is hurting too much to allow him to wrestle again.

"I enjoyed playing Santino for many years, but the one thing I regretted that when I hurt my neck for the last time, is that I was never able to be introduced by Mr. Socko. I appreciate it when you guys say I still got it. The fact is, I really hurt my neck. I don't got it, I can't do this. Throughout the whole match, my neck was hurting. But I got to wrestle in my building, in my ring in front of my friends and family. Now I have a chance to go out on my own terms. This is probably it, this is probably really it. Thank you for letting me do this," Marella said.

Marella spent 11 years with WWE, winning the Intercontinental, United States and WWE Tag Team Championships. Marella retired from WWE in-ring competition in 2014 due to constant neck pain and injuries. He was formally released from the company in 2016. Marella currently runs the Battle Arts Academy. Marella's speech can be seen in the Facebook post below.
