Sexy Star is back in AAA. Well, in a manner of speaking.
Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide held its annual Rey de Reyes event on Saturday, May 1, and one of the marquee matches was to award the vacant Reina de Reinas Championship. The belt has been unoccupied since Taya Valkyrie relinquished it in February after signing with WWE.
Faby Apache would eventually win the Six-Way Match, but one of her competitors - who was unveiled as a surprise entrant - was Sexy Star. This isn't the same Sexy Star that held the Reina de Reinas belt three times, though. Rather, it's a rebooted version of the character portrayed by Hija de Gatubela.
The original Sexy Star, Dulce García, has not worked for AAA since August 26, 2017. On that night, at TripleMania XXV, she purposely popped Rosemary's arm out of its joint. In the wake of the incident, wrestlers such as Chris Jericho, Brian "Road Dogg" James and Cody came out and said that she would not be allowed to compete where they work.
Dulce competed on April 30th in her third professional MMA fight, losing to Claudia Diaz at the Combate Global: Combate Latina event. For a more in-depth look at the fight and what happened, you can click here.
In addition to the reintroduction of the Sexy Star character, the Reina de Reinas Title match featured IMPACT Knockouts Champion Deonna Purrazzo on commentary. After the bell, she went and congratulated Apache on her victory before challenging her to a Title vs. Title match at TripleMania.
