AAA TripleMania XXVIII Officially Postponed, AAA Still Looking To Have The Event Take Place In 2020

Lucha Libre AAA's biggest show of the year won't be taking place on its intended August 22 date.

In a virtual press conference, AAA owner Dorian Roldan officially announced that TripleMania XXVIII , originally set to take place at Arena Ciudad de México, will no longer happen on that date. Roldan stated that it is not feasible for it to happen with the date being so close and that the promotion is looking to hold the event at some point this year in accordance with Mexican health guidelines due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

"I think when it comes to the celebration of TripleMania XXVIII, due to the sanitary situation going on around our country, it won't be possible to do the show on August 22. It's important to note that we are still exploring other alternatives to have this TripleMania event happen in 2020 and it will be in accordance with how the pandemic develops in the coming months. I want to reiterate that August 22 is not possible, but that we are looking to do TripleMania XXVIII with the proper health guidelines in 2020," Roldan said.

Only a couple of matches were set for the postponed event, including Pagano vs. Chessman in a hair vs. hair match. AEW Tag Team Champion Kenny Omega, who is also the AAA Mega Champion, had yet to be officially booked for the show.
