Athena wants to face Trinity Fatu, formerly known as Naomi.
Fightful Select reported that Fatu was backstage at ROH Supercard of Honor 2023 on March 31. At the pay-per-view, Athena defeated Yuka Sakazaki to retain the ROH Women's World Championship to continue her reign, which began when she dethroned Mercedes Martinez at ROH Final Battle 2022.
Speaking at the ROH Supercard of Honor post-show media conference, Athena was asked whether she would potentially want to face Trinity, and she made it clear that she was interested in the bout. She made it clear that Fatu is one of her very close friends, and she hopes to have a match with her. Athena also noted that she never got to have a match with her when they were in WWE.
"Absolutely. Trin is one of my really good friends, we talk on a daily basis. When we both found out that we were in LA, it was really awesome. She is one of my very close friends and she wanted to come out and support. Very cool moment. I hope to have a match with her in the future, I never had the opportunity in WWE to have that match. Absolutely," Athena said.
Fatu has not wrestled since May 2021, when she and Sasha Banks (now known as Mercedes Mone) walked out of WWE. She recently confirmed that she was no longer with the company. Fatu also trademarked "Trinity Starr" for wrestling and merchandise purposes. More information is available here.
