Nikki Bella reveals that the plan was for she and Brie to return to WWE TV and feud with The IIconics.
The WWE Women's Tag Team Championships were first obtained by Sasha Banks and Bayley at the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view and Banks and Bayley would later drop the titles to Billie Kay and Peyton Royce of The IIconics at WrestleMania 35. The IIconics have been reigning as tag team champions of the women's division since WrestleMania with their next challengers coming in the form of Asuka and Kairi Sane.
Billie Kay and Peyton Royce have not had many title defenses since winning the titles but during a recent edition of Nikki and Brie Bella's 'The Bellas Podcast', the twin sisters shared that they were prepared and slated to return on the SmackDown after WrestleMania to confront and feud with Billie and Peyton. Due to Nikki's hunch that something was not right with her neck, she decided to give various types of treatment a shot and went to speak with her doctors which led to the discovery that she has a cyst on her brain and a herniated disk that will prevent her from returning to in-ring competition. Here's how the conversation between Nikki and Brie unfolded:
Nikki Bella: “So Brie and I, we were gonna come back and fight for the tag titles after WrestleMania and we were gonna go against The IIconics for a few months -- it was gonna be a lot of fun, really excited and you know, deep down inside, I kept having this weird feeling that I needed to get an X-ray on my neck, because for a while I wasn’t feeling okay. Brie knows, that in December, after Evolution, I just kept telling her, ‘Brie, I feel off’. Like, my head doesn’t feel right and I just kept feeling off and I even told her, ‘Do you think I’m just super unhealthy?’ But I live a very healthy lifestyle but I couldn’t figure it out.”
Nikki talked about the treatment she underwent and doctors she visited and Brie jumped in the conversation: “But before, to everyone, we had our gear. We had everything!”
Nikki Bella: “I mean, we were ready. Bella Twins were coming back in a big way.”
Brie Bella: “The SmackDown after WrestleMania. I mean, we had it all planned out. We were in New York thinking it’s still happening.”
