Carmelo Hayes is ready to have banger matches.
Carmelo Hayes entered the world of NXT during the final days of NXT Black & Gold, giving a lasting memory when he slapped Adam Cole in the face. Hayes has been one of the faces of the NXT 2.0 era, but as NXT Champion, he believes he can have Black & Gold matches with the current roster.
Speaking to Corey Graves & Kevin Patrick on WWE After The Bell, Carmelo was asked what he hopes to accomplish during his reign as NXT Champion as the roster changes following the 2023 WWE Draft.
"One of the things that I noticed is, there are still so many studs left on the roster, so many good guys that can have that Black & Gold era type style that people say they miss and they want. I look forward to having those type of matches with guys. There are so many guys; Dijak, Dragon Lee, Ilja Dragunov, Tyler Bate, Wes Lee. I know I'm forgetting names. There are so many good guys on that roster. I just want to have great matches with all of them during this reign and see who is willing or who can dethrone me at that point. I want to bring back good, solid wrestling to the NXT show. Not that there is not that, but there is a lot of people learning how to get their feet wet and there is a lot of guys who are going to go out and kill it. I'm among those guys that want to go out and kill it," he said.
Hayes is set to defend his NXT Championship against Bron Breakker at NXT Battleground. Hayes defeated Breakker to win the title at NXT Stand & Deliver.
