Christian Cage is reflecting on the moment that he shared with his best friend, Edge at the 2021 Royal Rumble and says that sometimes the best moments don't need to be scripted and they don't need verbiage.
Currently, Christian Cage is wrestling for All Elite Wrestling. But he made his return after seven years of forced retirement due to medical precautions, to WWE during this year's Royal Rumble match.
The story of that match was Edge, who had come back the year previous from his own nine-year retirement and started the Royal Rumble Match becoming only the third person to go the distance and win the whole thing.
When Edge saw Christian in the ring, the two embraced and were able to share a special moment together before going their separate ways in the match. Edge would last eliminate Randy Orton, a common enemy of both Ontario natives, and punch his ticket to the main event of WrestleMania 37 where he ultimately lost to Roman Reigns.
Speaking on AEW Unrestricted, Christian Cage revealed that the two did not share any words when they shared that embrace, nor was it a planned moment in the match.
“When he hugged me at the Rumble, we didn't say anything. That wasn't even a planned hug or anything. I did my thing, I turned around. He was standing there with a huge smile on his face, made me smile and we embraced and then we just went on about our business. That was one of those spontaneous things. It was a great moment. You can't write those moments.”
Continuing on, Christian Cage singled out two other Canadians, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn, as names that he would have liked to work with in WWE should he have stayed with that promotion instead of going to AEW.
Speaking about Sami Zayn specifically, Christian said that the current character Sami Zayn is portraying on television made Christian believe that they could create something special together if they were afforded the opportunity to work together.
“I would say probably Kevin Owens [is someone he’d have wanted to work]. I really like the passion that he has. I like the way that he delivers his promos, I think he’s fearless when he delivers his promos. I think that he’s a fearless competitor in the ring, as well. I just like his style. Sami Zayn as well. I thought, especially with his character the way it is now, we could have done some pretty special things. So off the top of my head, I would say probably those two guys.”
Christian Cage has had two singles matches so far under the AEW banner. Most recently defeating Powerhouse Hobbs on April 21.
