Dan Severn says his match with Matt Riddle provided something different.
At Game Changer Wrestling's event Joey Janela's Spring Break, Severn and Riddle were the main event at 2am. The night was filled with eccentric characters and bizarre matches, but the main event pitted two mixed-martial-artist against each other in a hard hitting professional wrestling match. In an interview with Outside Interference, Severn talked about the match including when he found out who Matt Riddle was.
"Did I really know anything about Matt Riddle? No. But then I asked a couple questions about him knowing he was a former MMA competitor," said Severn "I guess he's a new star (in professional wrestling) that's rising quickly," he added.
Riddle defeated Severn via submission in a match which featured suplexes, palm strikes, and grappling exchanges. Severn explained why the match was unique.
"There are things that can transpire between him and I that can not transpire with a normal professional wrestler that basically does professional wrestling type things. The fans that came out to watch the match itself, they saw a lot of moonsaults, clotheslines, and body slams. They didn't see that kind of stuff out of our match. They actually saw some ground wrestling which very few professional wrestler will be able to show. We showed some legitimate amateur wrestling, freestyle wrestling, and greco-roman techniques as well." said Severn,
Severn called it a "blending of different kinds of grappling arts." Riddle has discussed his match with Severn on Fightful Wrestling's BROCAST and said he wanted to face a mixed-martial-arts legend and Severn was the first and only one to agree to a match.
