David Finlay has had a huge year in professional wrestling. From competing against Zack Sabre Jr., to wrestling at Wrestle Kingdom and having a huge, Tekken-inspired entrance, and more -- Finlay is proving himself on an almost daily basis.
And proving himself is something he believes he still has to do in the upcoming G1 Climax Tournament for New Japan Pro Wrestling. Finlay said that everyone who competes in the G1 Tournament believes they need to "step up," and that's exactly what he plans on doing.
That's what Finaly recently told Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp in an interview where he spoke about the pressure of the G1 Tournament, and even compared it to his recent match against Zack Sabre Jr.
"I would put it up to the G1. G1, we're doing this for a month straight. So going from a cup tour, having like a week off, going and doing a World title match, having like two days off and then going and wrestling Zack Sabre Jr. It's light work at this point. If you can do a G1, you can do anything. I prefer this to the [G1]. The G1's rough at towards the end of it. It is rough, but also I've been doing this since I was 19. I grew up in the business. I was made for this. This is what I've wanted. So I like being busy," Finlay stated.
Finlay noted that being a part of the G1 Tournament requires him to be at his absolute best.
"It is one of those things you actually do have to like, ‘Alright, I gotta like step it up a notch,’ and like everyone is like mentally prepared for it. The other tours are a little simpler, but that one is when everyone is like, ‘Alright, I gotta bring my A game.’ So there's a little pressure on the preparation," he said.
