Dominik Mysterio says he has always secretly kind of been a dick.
Dominik, the son of Rey Mysterio, joined the WWE roster in 2020 as he joined his father's feud with Seth Rollins. The father-son duo then became a tag team, and they won the SmackDown Tag Team Championship at WWE WrestleMania Backlash 2021. Dominik later turned on Rey and joined the Judgment Day at WWE Clash at the Castle 2022. Since then, Dominik has become one of the most hated heels in WWE, as he gets some of the loudest boos of the night on a regular basis.
Speaking with Kenny McIntosh for Inside The Ropes, Dominik was asked about developing his villainous persona and how he got into it.
“I don’t know. I think it’s kind of just always secretly been hidden in me, that I’m kind of just this dick. Which, like with all things, it just came naturally to me, man. I don’t know what it was, but I think what really helped me was I guess when I was training with Lance and with Jay Lethal, I guess everyone thought I was just gonna be a babyface like my dad and just be a good guy all the time. So when I would do practice matches, I would want to be a heel. I wanted to be the bad guy. So I trained, most of the time, my practice matches, I was always the bad guy. So it was always fun to kind of get into that character. Once I got the opportunity, I was like, I’m not gonna blow it. RBIs is gonna be the one. I’ve always wanted to be the bad guy. Guys like Eddie Guerrero, Dean Malenko, Chris Jericho, guys like that I grew up watching, that’s how I wanted to do it," Mysterio said.
In recent weeks, Dominik has been feuding with Cody Rhodes, and they will clash at WWE Money in the Bank. More information is available here.
Dominik recently stated that people who clap at the movies deserve to get put in the camel clutch. Check out what he had to say here.
