Drew McIntyre says that, in the present, he's back in WWE.
McIntyre had been absent from WWE for several months following his match at WWE WrestleMania 39. During his absence, Fightful Select reported that McIntyre's contract was set to expire in early 2024. Another report from PWInsider noted that McIntyre and WWE were trying to figure out the creative for his return, as he didn't want to float around aimlessly. McIntyre returned at WWE Money in the Bank on July 1 and took the fight to WWE Intercontinental Champion Gunther.
Speaking on the July 5 edition of WWE's The Bump, McIntyre was asked whether there was anything he wanted to say to the fans, and he apologized for missing shows. He noted that missing his dates isn't like him unless there's a reason. The former WWE Champion pointed to the rumors surrounding him, and he stated that the future doesn't matter. Instead, he emphasized that, in the present, he is back.
“I just want to apologize for everybody, that I missed my dates, I missed the towns. It’s not like me, unless there’s a reason. Obviously, the rumor and innuendo is out there. What’s going on with Drew McIntyre? What’s going on with the future? The future doesn’t matter. What matters is the present, and presently, Drew McIntyre is back. If you’re heading to a WWE show and Drew McIntyre’s there, you know you’re gonna get 110%, and finally, I’m chasing that big moment with a title in front of live fans. So let’s make that happen finally," McIntyre said.
At the WWE Money in the Bank post-show press conference, Triple H stated that McIntyre was absent due to an injury. Check out his comments here.
McIntyre and Riddle will face Imperium on the July 10 episode of WWE Raw. Check out the card here. Fightful will have coverage of the show as it airs.
