Eric Young: Well-Respected Guys In WWE Were Telling Me, 'Thank You For Being A Leader'

Eric Young continues to discuss his WWE departure.

Eric Young was "killed" on IMPACT Wrestling TV in December 2022 as a way to write him off television as he was set to return to WWE. While Young signed with WWE, he never debuted on television, and ended up returning to IMPACT at Slammiversary as the surprise partner of Scott D'Amore.

Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Young provided more insight on his WWE departure.

"There are lots of issues. It's a difficult place to work and anyone who has worked there, knows that. For me, when I signed up at the end of October, early November, I signed up to play on one team and when it came time to go to work, I was going to be playing on a different team. Personally, professionally, and more importantly for me, morally, I can't take instructions from a person like that, I refuse. I'm in a very blessed position where I get to choose, and I chose not to work there. Everyone has their own lives and own stories. I was going back and forth with a couple of guys that are very well-respected there and they were saying, 'thank you for leading.' I'm not doing it to be a leader or set an example. I'm doing it because it's right for me. It's amazing that I get to make that choice because a lot of guys won't ever get that choice. I get to choose and choose not to work for that particular person. I'm sure everyone is following along," said Young.

Fightful Select reported, "WWE sources that this request for release was right after the announcement of Endeavor’s deal with WWE, and this wasn’t a coincidence – Eric Young didn’t want to work with Vince McMahon after the Endeavor deal was announced and it was evident McMahon was back in the fold in an official capacity. WWE sources confirmed to Fightful that Young had cited moral, creative and personal reasons as why he didn’t want to work with Vince McMahon."

While making the media rounds during the week, Young gave other details on his WWE departure. You can find his full comments by clicking here.
