Evan Husney: We Might Have To Wait Years To Truly Unpack Vince McMahon’s Allegations For ‘Dark Side’

Evan Husney comments on Dark Side of the Ring potentially covering Vince McMahon.

Vince McMahon is one of the most controversial figures in the wrestling world, and he was in the spotlight throughout the summer of 2022, as the Wall Street Journal reported that the WWE Board was investigating the WWE Chairman over alleged sexual misconduct and hush money. Specifically, the investigation centered around a secret $3 million settlement that he reportedly agreed to pay to a departing employee he allegedly had an affair with.

According to a second report by the Wall Street Journal, McMahon "agreed to pay more than $12 million over the past 16 years to suppress allegations of sexual misconduct and infidelity," and the money reportedly went to four women who were previously associated with WWE. The payments reportedly were linked to agreements that prohibited the women from discussing potential legal claims or their relationships. In November 2022, WWE confirmed that their investigation was complete.

VICE TV's Dark Side of the Ring has covered a range of controversial topics in the wrestling world, including the Chris Benoit double murder-suicide, and some fans have wondered whether McMahon could be a subject of an upcoming episode.

Speaking with Connor Casey on ComicBook Nation, Dark Side of the Ring Executive Producer and co-creator Evan Husney commented on potentially covering the allegations against McMahon on Dark Side of the Ring and noted that they might have to wait a few years before they can dive into that story.

"It’s funny to see on social media, I do get a kick out of it. When something controversial happens in the modern age of wrestling, you instantly get the Dark Side memes. That’s fun. The way that I look at these modern stories, with most of the stories we cover on the show, there is the benefit of hindsight or so much time has gone by, the story is done. The story is finished, so we can really get into it and try to unpack it. These stories that pop up in the last year or two, those are stories that are not really done being told. I think we might have to wait a few years, maybe more, before we can really dive in and unpack and truly understand every aspect of that story," Husney said.

McMahon returned to WWE in January 2023, and the company subsequently reached a transaction agreement with Endeavor that will see the company merge with UFC. The WWE Chairman also commented on the allegations against him when he was discussing this agreement. Click here to see what he had to say.
