Maxwell Jacob Friedman saw a crucial week in his career unfold last week, winning the MLW Middleweight Title at their set of television tapings. Only two days later, a match featuring the new champ would abruptly end.
The 22-year old star was facing Ace Romero at this weekend's AAW in Merrionette Park, Illinois when a knee injury forced the match to end. Fightful has learned that MJF underwent an MRI on his knee earlier this week which revealed that he sustained a small tear in his lateral meniscus, as well as a tear in his LCL ligament.
While the injury sounds bad, we're told that MJF's recovery time sits at about 2-6 weeks. He has a couple of major dates on his schedule in the form of All-In on September 1st, and the next set of MLW tapings a week and a half later. As it turns out, he's targeting the short end of that recovery time, and hoping to be back in the ring in mid-August.
MJF participated in MLW's Battle Riot last week, the same night he captured the MLW Middleweight Championship, and just days after he defended his CZW World Heavyweight Title in Toronto.
