The Vince McMahon docuseries is dropping on Netflix just before the WWE-Netflix era begins.
Wrestlenomics posted that the final episode in the series would cover McMahon’s lawsuit alleging a number of sexual misconduct claims, and it would also be addressed at the top of the show. WWE sources that we spoke to believed that this was establish to help take heat off of any talking heads on the show that may have spoken about McMahon glowingly before the 2022 allegations emerged.
“I don’t think at this point anyone should care about the life and times of Vince McMahon above the legal situation he’s in,” said one WWE talent of over a decade. Of everyone that we spoke to in WWE (over one dozen contacts on this particular story) across talent, staff and higher ups, it was a unanimous feeling of wanting to wash their hands of Vince McMahon. Whether or not those we didn't spoke to have is another question.
Fightful did reach out to Janel Grant’s spokesperson about her inclusion (or lack thereof) and were told, "Netflix's documentary group made initial outreach to Janel's representation for an interview for this project. Despite this, no such interview came to fruition." - Spokesperson for Janel Grant. We’d asked for more detail on the phrasing of the interview “not coming to fruition,” as well, specifically if there was ever a follow up from Netflix after the initial outreach. We did not get further explanation.
Those in WWE that spoke on the trailer said that they believed the opening line from McMahon not being a bad guy was designed to increase chatter about the upcoming docuseries.
WWE has not commented in an official capacity on the docuseries trailer. The series releases on September 25 on Netflix.
