Dennis Condrey was honored following the August 5 episode of AEW Saturday Collision.
AEW Saturday Collision occurred in Greenville, South Carolina, on Saturday, August 5, 2023. The Carolinas were once home to the Mid-Atlantic Wrestling territory, known for tag team wrestling.
In the mid-80s, one of the best tag teams was the Midnight Express, "Loverboy" Dennis Condrey and "Beautiful" Bobby Eaton. Dennis and Bobby, along with their manager Jim Cornette, were a major part of Jim Crockett Promotions, and in 2023, some top guys got the opportunity to pay tribute to one of their heroes.
FTR's Dax Harwood and CM Punk invited Dennis Condrey into the ring following the episode of Collision taped in Greenville, praising him for revolutionizing the industry, and allowed him the opportunity to say a few words to the audience.
Dennis Condrey, who has some difficulty speaking without a voice box after a previous battle with throat cancer, thanked his wife of 35 years and told FTR he was done arguing with them, and he officially wants it known that they are the best tag team of all time.
"Right now, tonight, I want to tell you guys I'm tired of arguing with you. We [Midnight Express] are not the best tag team in the world. You guys are the best tag team in the world. We have argued over this, and I'm not going to argue no more," he said. "Let me go with just saying this, without these two guys right now. We would not have [the Midnight Express theme music] going. They're keeping us alive with their music. I love them very much."
Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler began using entrance music inspired by the Midnight Express' theme song following the passing of Bobby Eaton and continue to use it to this day.
Harwood also paid tribute to Dennis by wearing his ring jacket to the ring on August 5. FTR defeated Big Bill and Brian Cage on August 5 to retain The AEW World Tag Team Titles.
