Hiroshi Tanahashi picks a Los Ingobernables de Japon member to win the tournament.
On May 18th, the round-robin tournament Best of the Super Juniors will begin and Hiroshi Tanahashi spoke with New Japan Pro Wrestling about the upcoming tournament. Tanahashi says a lot fo fans are looking for a particular match up in the finals but he would like to see a finals match between Taiji Ishimori and Hiromu Takahashi.
"I think a lot of people are expecting a KUSHIDA and Will Ospreay Final. But the BOSJ is like the G1 Climax for junior heavyweights, right? I think in that environment, the probability of that final happening is pretty low. With that said, I think Taiji Ishimori and Hiromu would be a good final. Without taking the group matches into account, that just looks like a cool match the fans will love. But then that makes for some crazy results in the block matches, it’s hard to see what would lead to that final," said Tanahashi.
Between Takahashi and Ishimori, Tanahashi says he picks Takahashi to win the tournament.
"It’s hard to call. Impossible. Whoever makes it to the end it’ll be good; I think this is the best lineup in years. Of all the entrants though, my pick is Hiromu," said Tanahashi.
Takahashi and Ishimori are in different block groups so if they are leading the scoreboard at the end of the tournament they will face off in the finals for a chance at Will Ospreay's IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship. In the rest of the interview, Tanahashi discussed particular match ups from the upcoming tournament. The full interview is available at NJPW1972.com.
